Tenth Avenue North, has a song titled “You Are More”. The other day it ministered to me in such a special way. I was not just spiritually strengthened at that moment, but I felt physically stronger as well. The chorus goes:
You are more than the choices you’ve made.
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes.
You are more than the problems you create,
You’ve been remade.
The enemy comes by often and tries to remind me of who I was. When I was not focused on Kingdom Building. When I did not accept my responsibility to live upright. When I made decisions that I know were not of God. He does this to try to stop me. Prevent me from my forward movements. Have you ever been there?
But this song reminds me, it reminds us, that when I/We/You truly decided to be “sold out” for God; decided that I/We/You wanted to be a light in this world and not a source of darkness, I/We/You became new. God has forgiven Me/Us/You and accepted Me/Us/You for who I/We/You were but more importantly for the person that I/We/You are striving to be.
We’ve got to stop allowing the enemy; no matter what or who he uses to replay our past in an effort to prevent us from creating a better future. It is okay to not forget where we came from. But when we discuss our past, especially when we were not walking in his way, it should only be to (1) minister and encourage someone else or (2) delcare how God moved and brought us out.
You have to know that if you said “yes” to God, than you are not who you use to be. When you find yourself among friends or family members who just want to consistantly remind you of where you’ve come from and never focus on the present and the new life that you’re living, just hold you head up high and declare and believe in the New You. Tell the enemy, you are right, that use to be me, but not anymore. God has forgiven and delievered me. Remind them of the truth.
Truth:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.
