Today at church, Ebenezer Baptist, Minister Matthew Winder encouraged us to “Be The Light That God Intended Us To Be”. He referenced Matthew 5: 14-16 which clearly gives us a directive to let our light shine. He also asked the question “How You Living”? This question made me think about legacies and how people “show up” in this world. It is not that we should be focused on what others think about us, but we are suppose to be and do good in this world. Ephesians 2: 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
As I meditate on this verse, more and more questions are coming.
- Is my life having a positive impact on anyone or anything?
- Do my good works outweigh my bad works?
- Does my very presence give off good or bad vibes?
- Is my light bright or dim?
Ephesians 2: 10 states that “…which God prepared in advance for us to do” . God’s plans for our lives included him actually equipping us to do “good”. It should not be hard to do the right thing because we are created for just that, “to do good works”. If we are applying for a job and the requirements included experience in a specific software, an identified skill set and documented good works would we qualify? If not, we need to go back and get the knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the requirements. Reading our bible, praying and fasting will help us to be qualified. Be kind to people, pray without ceasing and asked God to give or increase your desire to live out Ephesians 2:10.
