I was just watching a TV show and the character’s wife had died and he said, words to the effect of, I don’t know if I can help my son. The other character said, once you find out what type of father you want to be, you’ll know what to do.
Sounds simple. In some ways it is; but it takes determination, focus and committment. In the area of careers, we identify what we want to be and put ourselves in position to operate in that career through edcuation, be it college or skilled training. The athlete decides that they want to be a good player and they train consistently to gain the skills and techniques needed to be “good”. In these examples, at the beginning of the idea/dream, focus is not placed on how non-equipped they are, but how to get equipped and how to position ourselves to obtain and/or achieve.
At different points in our lives, we waste time focused on the fact that we don’t have the answer, we don’t have the skills, we don’t have the knowledge, we did not make all the right decisions, etc. When we should be focused on getting in position to accomplish and achieve our dreams.
You want to have a solid financial foundation, educate yourself on savings and investment options and begin adopting positive habits. Make shopping a budgeted item, not an impulsive one. You want to go to college; place priority on studying and learning how to “learn” and how to transfer/explain the knowledge you gained.
Stop giving all your attention to what you don’t have, begin to equip yourself to gain the skills you need. Search out what you need to have and position yourself to gain it.
